How to Downgrade iPhone 4.0.2 to 4.0.1
Yesterday I made a mistake upgrading my iPhone 3GS firmware to version 4.0.2 . I thought I could easily jailbreak it using www.jailbreakme.com but this firmware version fixes the PDF exploit that JailbreakMe was using.
I then decided to downgrade to version 4.0.1 and it took me hours to understand why it wouldn't work. So here is a step by step tutorial on how to do this with a PC (not apple - For apple click here.)
Step 1. Dowload FW
Download the correct firmware for your iPhone model. Mine was iPhone2,1_4.0.1_8A306_Restore.ipsw found at http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
Step 2. Put your iPhone in DFU mode
This can be a bit tricky sometimes...
- Turn off your iPhone. (holding the power button and slide to power off)
- Hold down the power and home button.
- When you see the Apple logo, release the power button but continue holding the home button down.
-
Open iTunes and wait for it to tell you that it's in restore mode.
Other Method:
- Connect iphone to USB then listen to the sound when it connect and disconnect.
- Hold the home and power buttons until hear the disconnect sound then release power button.
- Wait until you hear another sound then release home button.
Step 3. Restore the new firmware
In iTunes (at the moment Version 10), go to your iPhone under Devices.
Click the SHIFT key and press RESTORE button at the same time. This will open an explorer window. Find and point to the firmware you've just downloaded.
Click Open and Restore.
And that's it!
If you've got this error : An unknown error occured. (3194) follow those steps:
- in your windows navigate to "c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\" and open the 'hosts' file in notepad. To do that, right click on the file and select Open With->Notepad.
At the end of the document, add this string "74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com - restart iTunes (do not forget this)
- Try to downgrade again (Step 3)
A lot of peoples have been asking the same question: Is it possible to publish an article directly from Microsoft Word? Yes, MS Word 2007 and Joomla can do this!

I have to admit sometimes when you look at brilliant ideas and simple concepts as this one; I ask myself why I haven’t thought about it?
